Medical team arrives in Adiala Jail, Nawaz Sharif likely to be shifted to PIMS VIP ward: Sources

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) formed on Monday a four-member medical board to check the health of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif who is currently in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail for corruption.

The medical board along with a mobile laboratory has reached the Adiala Jail.

Dr Aijaz Qadeer is chairman of the medical board which comprises PIMS Head of Cardiology Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr Shajee Siddiqui, Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood.

Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif has been shifted from his cell to the hospital facility in the prison for check-up.

According to the sources, the caretaker government wants the medical board to re-examine Major General (retired) Dr Azhar Mehmood Kayani's, head of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC), report on Nawaz's health.

Kayani conducted the first check-up of the former prime minister on late Sunday night.

The sources further stated, "Nawaz wants to be shifted to RIC but the government wants to shift him to PIMS," adding that the PIMS' VIP ward is being prepared for Nawaz Sharif.

Earlier, on July 22, it was reported that Nawaz was experiencing numerous medical issues due to dehydration.
