Massive crackdown in Indian Occupied Kashmir, over 150 people arrested by Indian troops

ISLAMABAD - Indian police and troops have launched a massive crackdown arresting over 150 people including pro-freedom leaders and activists.

According to Kashimir Media Service (KMS) , Indian police took the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, into custody after raiding his Maisuma residence in Srinagar and lodged him at Kothibagh police station.

Indian troops and police arrested dozens of leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami of the occupied territory from their residences during nocturnal raids across the occupied territory.

Those arrested included JI Ameer, Dr Abdul Hamid Fayaz, Advocate Zahid Ali, Ghulam Qadir Lone, Abdur Rauf, Mudassir Ahmed, Abdul Salam, Bakhtawar Ahmed, Muhammad Hayat, Bilal Ahmed and Ghulam Muhammad Dar.

Meanwhile, the family members of a youth arrested in Deoband town of Saharanpur, yesterday, staged a protest in Srinagar, today, to demand his release.

Uttar Pradesh police had on Friday claimed that Shahnawaz Ahmed Teli and another youth, identified as Aaqib Ahmed Malik of Pulwama, were arrested in Deoband and they had affiliation with a mujahid organisation.

However, the family of Shahnawaz Ahmed Teli trashed the police claims, saying that he was being framed under a false name.

The family members came all the way from Kulgam in south Kashmir to Press Enclave in Srinagar where they staged a demonstration demanding his immediate release.
