South Korea to promote tourism sector in Pakistan: Korean Ambassador

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Managing Director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Abdul Gafoor on Thursday said on that bilateral cordial relations between Pakistan and Korea are ideal since its existence and cooperation in the field of tourism would further enhance these ties.

Ghafoor stated this while presiding over a meeting here today.

He said that Pakistan, being the custodian of Heritage, high mountains, longest glaciers, beautiful valleys, vast deserts and virgin beaches, likes to spread a message of peace and love said a news release issued here Thursday.

He added that apart from these "we have different segments of tourism like Eco tourism, religious tourism, cultural tourism, health tourism and supports tourism but we are focusing on religious tourism specially Buddhism where we have huge heritage in shape of Ghandara Valley".

Ghafoor said that "we have appointed coordinators throughout the country and abroad to work for the promotion of tourism on behalf of PTDC".

There are numerous opportunities for investors to invest in the field of tourism and we would love the Korean Ambassador to come forward to invest in the field of tourism in Pakistan like they have already many projects in Pakistan.

Kim In Kook expressed his views about Pakistan that indeed Pakistan is one of the beautiful countries of the World. He further said that he had travelled a lot and visited many places, specially Kalash Valley in Chitral, Gilgit, Hunza, Taxila and Rohtas Fort but "I felt that there is a lack of Souvenir shops because when the tourist visit a site; they want to buy Souvenir as a memory of that place and secondly there is a need of Infrastructure, transportation and other facilities to attract tourists".

The MD said as per past practice, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Republic of Korea and Korea Tourism Organization may host tourism and hospitality training course by inviting officers of PTDC from Pakistan and may continue cooperation in the field of tourism.

Korean Outbound Tour Operators may project Gandhara Heritage of Pakistan.

Embassy of Republic of Korea can play an active role in this regard.

Tour packages of both the countries may be introduced and promoted mutually by the public and private organizations / companies.

MD PTDC thanked Kim In Kook for his visit and assured him to cooperate with each other for further enhancement of friendly relations.
