CJP makes important statement over General Elections

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday has directed to conduct upcoming general elections on time.
Hearing a case regarding appointments in government institutions, CJP asked under which law, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has banned hirings over which, ECP secretary said that Election Act 2017 gave this authority.
Chief Justice further asked whether this decision will affect government affairs and also ordered high courts to resolve these matters as early as possible.
The commission should explain its stance regarding banning appointments as no such case has been surfaced before, he added.
It is pertinent here to mention that ECP on April 11 had imposed a ban on pre-election recruitment and uplift works across the country announced after April 1.
Also the diversion of funds for development works would not take place. However, recruitment process through the public service commission would be continued.
