Afghan Refugees Registration process initiated: SAFRON Minister

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Qadir Baloch Friday said that registration process for unregistered Afghans refugees would be started within three weeks.

Addressing a joint press conference with Afghan counterpart Syed Hussain Almi Balkhi, Qadir Baloch said that the government would take stern action against those refugees who would not register themselves.

The minister said that after taking serious steps by Afghans government, Pakistan would review the extension of repatriation date for six month in next meeting of the Cabinet.

Qadir Baloch assured that he would request the Prime Minister for extending Proof of Registration Card (PoR) for two years.

Pakistan has been hosting largest refugees number of the world for the last 36 years and provided all possible facilities to them with the help of United Nations.

To a question, the minister said that complaint cells were established in all provinces to address the issues of Afghans refugees.

Afghan Minister Syed Hussain said that Afghanistan would provide all basic facilities to the Afghan refugees including plot, home, flat and agriculture land, who were repatriated from Pakistan.

He said that $ 550 million would be required for the rehabilitation of Afghans refugees and Rs. 400,000 would be provided to every family for the construction of their homes.

Syed Hussain said that Afghan government had already talked with the international community for the proper rehabilitation of refugees, more than 50,000 were already repatriated while more would be repatriated this year hopefully, he added.
