Pakistani top diplomat summoned in New Delhi

India on Friday summoned a senior Pakistan High Commission official in New Delhi and raised the issue of increasing accounts of abduction of women and minor girls of minority communities in Pakistan.

A protest was organised outside the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi on Monday morning by people belonging to the Sikh community. On Tuesday, a candlelight vigil would be held by around fifty women of the Shiromani Akali Sal (Badal) Women Wing, India today has reported.

This comes after news of the recent abduction of a 17-year-old in Pakistan, who is the daughter of a Granthi.

The Ministry of External Affairs time and again has raised the matter of minority persecution with Pakistani authorities in New Delhi and in Islamabad.

The report further says that local police are often accused of complicity in these cases by failing to investigate them properly. In the Sikh community itself, more than 55 such instances of abductions and forced conversions are said to have taken place in the past few months.
