PM launches new curriculum & textbooks phased project in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that no nation can make progress without promoting quality education and making its population literate.
He was speaking at launching ceremony of new curriculum and textbooks for Islamabad Capital Territory with the aim to promote quality education in Islamabad on Monday.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan has made strides and taken certain initiatives in the field of education but still more needs to be done.
He expressed the confidence that the new curriculum will prove to be an important milestone towards shifting focus from cramming to promoting analytical skills and generating thought process among the students.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Ministry of Education for implementing the new curriculum in the federal capital from class one to class five. He said in the next phases, the curriculum will be revised up to higher secondary school.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said since assuming office, it was utmost effort of the government to revise the curriculum in accordance with the modern day requirements. He said Islamabad Capital Territory will be made a model for the provinces in the education sector and the process of updating and revising the curriculum will continue.
The Prime Minister pointed out the subject of education has been devolved to the provinces after the 18th amendment and stressed that federal government will have to play a leadership role in this particular subject. He said the provinces have allocated sufficient funds for the education but there are capacity issues which needs to be addressed.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the federal government in cooperation with the provincial governments have made efforts to improve the standard of education.
He also appreciated the role played by the private sector and Punjab province in the promotion of education sector but said that the federal government will also have to fulfill its responsibility.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the need for developing a national testing system after developing consensus with the provinces in order to assess the performance of different examination boards. He expressed the confidence that the next government will work towards that end.
