Nawaz Sharif lawyer admits taking salary from Capital FZE

*ISLAMABAD: Contrary to the former premier Nawaz Sharif’s argument that he was disqualified for not receiving a salary from his son’s Dubai-based company, his lawyer admitted before an accountability court on Friday that the PML-N supreme leader got salary from Capital FZE. *

Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over the trial proceedings as Khawaja Haris, Mr. Sharif’s lead counsel, continued his final arguments in the Avenfield properties case on the fourth day.

The former premier and his daughter Maryam Nawaz didn’t appear as they are in London owing to the illness of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

Advocate Haris contended that Mr. Sharif is neither a beneficial owner of the London flats, nor has anything to do with them. The prosecution had to prove their ownership, he added.

Moreover, he said, his client has also nothing to do with any transactions which took place between his father Mian Sharif and elder son Hussain Nawaz.

The documents the anti-graft watchdog placed on record to back its case up didn’t have any mention of Mr. Sharif, he argued.

Haris acknowledged that the former premier received a salary from Capital FZE, which dates back to 2008 and asked even if he received the salary what it has to do with the case at hand.
