Hanif Abbasi awarded life imprisonment in ephedrine quota case

ISLAMABAD: PML-N Leader Hanif Abbasi has been awarded life time imprisonment and a fine of one million rupees in ephedrine quota case by Anti-Narcotics Court Rawalpindi.

The verdict was read out by Judge of special court of Anti-Narcotics Mohammad Akram Khan.

Seven other accused have been acquitted on benefit of doubt.

According to the judgment, issued late last night (Saturday), Hanif Abbasi, the PML-N candidate from NA-60 against Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid, failed to defend himself, and the charges levelled against him proved to be true.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) officials later arrested Hanif Abbasi from the court premises and shifted him to Rawalpindi’s Adyala Jail.

Hanif Abbasi now also stands disqualified from July 25 polls due to this conviction.

Earlier, Anti-Narcotics Court Rawalpindi had reserved judgment in the case after Hanif Abbasi's lawyer Tanveer Iqbal and the counsel for Anti-Narcotics Force concluded their arguments.
