In a surprise, India cancels foreign minister meeting with Pakistani counterpart

NEW DELHI - In a surprise the Indian government has announced the cancellation of Indian foreign minister meetings with Pakistan foreign minister.

India on Friday cancelled a meeting between foreign ministers of India and Pakistan, Indian media reported, which was scheduled to take place in New York.

On Thursday, a spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Qureshi and Swaraj will meet on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York later this month.

The spokesperson, however, had not specified a date for the meeting, but sources informed Geo News that the meeting was scheduled for September 27.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar confirmed the cancellation of the meeting.

The decision for the foreign ministers' meet was taken after Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote a letter to Indian Premier Narendra Modi.
