PakistanEconomy- Rs 100 billion to be spent on FATA development

ISLAMABAD - Responding to a point of order in the National Assembly, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch said the Prime Minster will make a policy statement on FATA reforms on his return from the United States.

He said that FATA Reforms Package has been prepared after consultation with the relevant stakeholders. 

He said both the houses of Parliament also have held extensive deliberations on the matter.

The Minister said under this package, the tribal areas will be brought into the mainstream in a period of five years.

He said a decision has also been taken to abolish the FCR. He said one hundred billion rupees will also be spent on the development of tribal areas in order to bring them at par with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other developed areas of the country.

Responding to a calling attention notice, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary said Pakistan is carrying out phased fencing of its border with Afghanistan to ensure better management of border.

The House has now been prorogued.
