Pakistan food security: The way forward


LAHORE: Chairman Auriga Group Jamshed IqbalCheema on Monday said that if the agriculture sector would notbe paid special attention, the country could face serious food crisis in future.

He expressed these views during a one-day food security conference, which was organised at a local hotel.

Cheema said that Pakistan is essentially an agriculturecountry, given the percentage of agricultural products itexports and the people employed in this sector.

Renowned agricultural and biological scientists spokeat the conference. They also raised public awareness aboutpotential of use of pesticides, biotechnology, commercialisation for achieving sustainable development.

The experts urged the government to modernise the agriculture system to ensure food security and poverty alleviation.
