The caretaker Punjab govt and PTI are the same: Shehbaz Sharif
ISLAMABAD: There can be no doubt in people’s minds that the caretaker Punjab government and PTI are one and the same, said PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar on Friday, the former Punjab chief minister said there is no difference between the caretaker government and PTI, accusing the former of dancing to the party’s tune.
He discussed the events of July 13, when former prime minister Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and was arrested at the Lahore airport.
“He left his very ill wife in London and came to Pakistan with his daughter and we wanted to hold a peaceful rally for him but Punjab’s caretaker government arrested workers unnecessarily,” said Shehbaz.
Our rally was the largest in the city’s history but they blocked the roads to our rally, he accused, adding that nonetheless, people showed their commitment to the party by coming out to support their leader.
He claimed that hundreds of thousands joined the rally but no planters were broken nor were any traffic lights.
“The caretaker Punjab government, at the behest of the PTI, registered terrorism cases against us,” he lamented, adding that they had written a letter to the ECP about this but called the commission a “silent spectacle”.
NAB is targeting the PML-N and trying to push us against the wall, said Shehbaz.
The PML-N president then turned to the issue of PTI chief Imran Khan and said he is deceiving the people night and day.
“The media may have blacked us out on July 13 but the people were with us,” he said, adding that he recently visited Attock and saw that despite the recent rain, people who appreciated Nawaz’s sacrifices filled the waterlogged rally site.
We are campaigning for the respect of the vote and for it to be safeguarded, he said. APP
