Afghan senior diplomat in Pakistan killed in Kabul Intercontinental Hotel attack

KABUL - Dr Abdullah Waheed, Afghan diplomat in Karachi has been reportedly killed in the Kabul Intercontinental Hotel attack by the Afghan Taliban, Pajhwok news has reported.

It was also reported that Five people were killed and 10 others injured during militants attack on Kabul intercontinental Hotel on Sunday, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said.

MoI spokesman Najibullah Danish told reporters at the site of attack that at least 100 foreigners had been rescued from the hotel. He added the dead were civilians but three security officials were among the injured.

He said security forces had cleared major part of the hotel and the sixth floor was being cleared. The fire brigade team had arrived at the site and engaged controlling he fire.

He said security forces had eliminated two attackers and one or two more attackers were probably still resisting at the sixth floor.

The attack was launched at around 7:00pm last night and continued until now.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Kabul intercontinental hotel is a place for mainly foreign and high profile guests.
