British businessmen keen to invest in Pakistan: British envoy

SIALKOT: (APP) Ms Belinda Lewis, British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, has said that Britain and Pakistan are determined to promote economic ties and her country will continue cooperating with the Pakistani businessmen for establishing strong bilateral trade relations.

She expressed these views while addressing an important meeting of the Sialkot exporters, held at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

SCCI President Majid Raza Bhutta, Dr Marriyam Nouman, chairperson SCCI Departmental Committee on Women Entrepreneurs, senior trade officials of the British High Commission and Muhamamd Ejaz Ghauri, SVC Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PSGMEA), also attended the meeting.

Ms Belinda Lewis said that the British investors and businessmen were taking keen interest in investing in Pakistan, as the UK intended to develop strong bilateral trade relations with Pakistan. She said that there was huge potential to increase bilateral trade between Pakistan and United Kingdom.

She said that British Business Centre, established in Lahore, could help further strengthen mutual trade ties. She said that progress of Pakistan Stock Exchange was also attractive for the British investors.

She said her country was making sincere efforts to ensure easy access of Pakistani businessmen to the international trade markets.

She said that Pakistan should get full advantage of its GSP Plus status.

The British deputy HC said that the UK businessmen need to have complete understanding of security situation in Pakistan, saying that the British business people should be realistic about the security concerns in this country.

She showed keen interest in a documentary on 'Sialkot -- a city of opportunities', shown during the meeting.
