Amir Khan vows to return with electrifying performance
LONDON - *British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan will return to the ring after a hiatus of two years when he takes on Phil Lo Greco at The Echo Arena today (Saturday). *
With a new trainer in his camp, the 31-year-old boxer vows to put up an electrifying performance.
“You are going to expect to see an electrifying Amir Khan,” he says. “You will see the speed, the explosiveness, the power.”
Khan said credited his new trainer, Joe Goossen, with polishing him and said that he’s trying to time his shots to perfection. But the experienced boxer was mindful of his opponent and described him as a tough competitor.
“It’s going to be a good test. He’s looking at this as a fight he can win. It’s a big fight for us both. I’ve not been in the ring for two years and he’s been a little bit more active than me. Time will tell who wins the fight,” he said.
Khan hasn’t been away from the spotlight over the past two years though. A public spat between his wife Faryal Makhdoom and her in-laws made headlines.
Khan indulged in a verbal spat on Twitter with Faryal last year that resulted in their separation. The two have gotten back together and Faryal seems to have mended fences with her in-laws.
Saturday’s fight will be an interesting one as it will tell whether Khan has put his past behind him or not.
