Nawaz Sharif approaches Islamabad High Court yet again

ISLAMABAD - Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has once again moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking bail on medical grounds.

The petition was filled on Monday by former premier’s counsel Khawaja Haris. The counsel also submitted the medical reports of Sharif along with the petition, local media reported.

According to the medical reports, doctors have have said that Sharif’s condition is quite critical. The doctors have also claimed that Nawaz is suffering from numerous diseases that can prove to be threatening to the incarcerated PM’s life.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had rejected Sharif’s review petition which sought bail on medical grounds and the permission to go abroad for treatment. The bench had also directed that Sharif surrender himself before the court as soon as his bail end.

On December 24, an accountability court Judge Arshad Malik handed Sharif seven years of imprisonment as well as a fine of Rs1.5 billion and $25 million in the Al-Azizia corruption reference. However, the accountability court acquitted Sharif in the Flagship reference.
