Passport Office Karachi officials arrested

ISLAMABAD (APP) On the orders of Interior Minister, two officials of Passport Office Karachi were arrested for corruption in visa extension of foreigners.
The Interior Ministry received a report that money was illegally taken from a foreigner in Karachi Passport Office, says a press release.
On the strict notice of the Interior Minister, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two officials including an Assistant Director of the concerned office and initiated formal investigation.
The Interior Minister directed the FIA to not only recover the money gained through corruption but the scope of investigation should be expanded so that other accused involved in this crime should be identified.
On the orders of the Interior Minister, the discretionary power of giving extension in visas to a certain period was taken back from the Office of Passport and Immigration.
In future, all cases of extension of visas of foreigners will be decided by Interior Ministry.
