Supreme Court announces verdict on petition of Hussain Nawaz against Panama JIT

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced the verdict on the petition of Hussain Nawaz filed against the Panama Case Joint Investigation Team.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the petition of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz seeking restraining order against recording of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s sessions probing the money laundering allegations against the Sharif family, ARY News reported.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan – a special bench constituted to oversee the implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case – announced its verdict on the application of Hussain Nawaz.
It ruled that the apprehensions of the applicant with regard to the possible leak of video of the JIT sessions are baseless.
Khawaja Haris, the applicant’s counsel, had contended that the JIT’s sessions shouldn’t be filmed as it was an unconstitutional act.
“If video recording of the JIT sessions was leaked, the consequences would be far worse than those of the photo leak,” he said while pointing to the aftermath of the photo leak of the PM’s son.
During hearing, Justice Ejaz remarked that the JIT proceedings were being recorded to ensure fairness in the investigation process. Moreover, this video will be not used as an evidence.
