LONDON - The former South African cricketer AB devilliers is an absolute legend because of his audacious shot-making capability, jaw-dropping fielding abilities and his jovial nature.
He also has a cult-like following in India where he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. However, many of his Indian fans turned against him for sharing a controversial creative on Instagram.
AB de Villiers shared an ad of a wine company which is starting business in New Delhi. The creative shows a wine bottle on the roof of an auto, with the tagline that 'Eagle has landed'. This was perfectly acceptable except the fact that there is a picture of Indian flag at the bottom right of the creative. This got the goat of the trolls who have slammed the ad.
Some of the reactions are:
bhaskar_leopard shame of you.. for Indian Flag billions give their life.. Kohli thought your Great batsman's.. now alot ppl know what you are.. among Indian ppl Fan's of you.. this really shit
vk18wyatt28.clubThere is a player in south African team name hashim amla who pay 50%of his match fee as a fine for not promoting alcohol brand on his tee and now there is another who promote it. @abdevilliers17 @hashamla
pridhviraj.dDon't misuse national flag. We are not ready to buy your product until you realized our pride...
brijeshb: what the hell ABD?!!?
Indians though are famous for getting offended. From AIB roast to Snapchat video of Latha Mangeshkar, there is outrage about virtually everything. Even now, an ad between Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Nanda has landed into trouble with bankers getting offended. So it is no wonder that national flag in a wine ad generated heat on Instagram.
