Flood warning radars being purchased by Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (APP): Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Tuesday informed the Senate that 18 new flood warning radars were being purchased which would help improve flood warning system in the country.
Replying to a calling attention notice of Mian Atteq Sheikh regarding the obsolete flood warning radars in Pakistan and non-implementation of Early Warning System Project, the minister said it was a truth that Pakistan has no latest flood warning system which could forecast floods with 100 percent accuracy.
The Minister said the country had 20 years old forecasting radars which could not forecast with 100 percent accuracy, adding that floods were a routine matter in monsoon season and therefore the government has decided to purchase 18 new radars to help improve its forecasting system.
He said out of the 18 radars, six radars would be installed in Balochistan at Gwadar, Pasni and Qalat, two in Sindh at Sukkar and Badin, two in Gilgit and Skardu, four in Khyber Pakhtunkwa at Chirat, Mansehra and Chitral while four radars would be installed at Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Sialkot and Mangla in Punjab.
