CPEC: Chinese 24 member delegation briefed on Western Route

ISLAMABAD (APP): A 24-member delegation of the China Highway & Transportation Society led by its Secretary General Liu Wenjie visited the National Highway Authority head office here on Tuesday.

The delegation is visiting the selected countries along the ancient Silk Road. NHA's Member Planning Raja Nowsherwan gave a detailed presentation on priority China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. He said Pakistan possesses extra-ordinary location in the region and due to this significant position, government of Pakistan is attaching great importance for development of a high speed road network in the country.

For the purpose, grand China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project has been undertaken as a priority project which will pave the way for socio-economic development of the entire region. He said that the length of the Western route of this corridor is 2459 Km. 335 Km long segment from Khunjrab to Raikot has being upgraded while work on 147km from Raikot to Thakot portion is in progress and is likely to be completed by end of this year.

Similarly, work on 120 Km Thakot-Havelian section and 60 Km section from Havelian to Burhan is in full swing. Hakla-DI Khan Motorway which is vital part of the Western route of CPEC has been divided into five packages and work on 3 packages is already underway, he said.

The visiting delegates also gave a presentation about infrastructure development work in China.

The team leader Liu Wenjie said, such visits help in expanding relations in the field of highway and transportation between the two countries.
