AJK Elections: Corps Commander Rawalpindi meets CEC AJK

RAWALPINDI (APP): Government and Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have requisitioned Pakistan Army troops for conduct of General Elections scheduled on Thursday under article 245 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and section 4 and 5 of the Anti terrorism Act 1999 (XXVll of 1997).

According to ISPR, Commander Rawalpindi Corps Lt. Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal held separate meetings with Chief Election Commissioner and Government officials of AJK including Chief Secretary and Inspector General Police in this behalf.

Conduct of elections would remain responsibility of Election Commission and that of law and order with Civil Administration and Police in all 41 constituencies including 12 reserve seats across rest of AJK while Pakistan Army will assist Election Commission AJK for conduct of elections.

Army will also assist Government of AJK in maintenance of law and order by deployment of troops inside and outside the polling stations.
