NEW DELHI - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a new offer to the PM Imran Khan.

He wrote a letter to his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan saying that New Delhi is willing to hold a constructive and meaningful engagement with Islamabad.

Modi felicitated Khan over assuming the office of premier and stressed need to work for a terror-free South Asia.

He noted that India was committed to peaceful neighbourly ties with Pakistan.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi termed the letter as a positive development in his maiden press conference.

"Both the countries are atomic powers. There is no capacity for adventure. Kashmir issue holds significance and India should understand this. Continuous negotiations are needed. We know the issues are tough and will not be solved overnight, but we have to engage."

"Indian Prime Minister wrote to PM Imran Khan yesterday and congratulated him. He has also indicated the beginning of talks between the two countries," he added.
