10 Afghan trained terrorists arrested from Banigala, target was PM Imran Khan: Sources

ISLAMABAD - At least 10 Afghan trained terrorists have been arrested from Bani gala who were aiming at targeting PM Imran Khan, it has been revealed. Intelligence Agencies had earlier warned the PTI leadership about severe security threats to Chairman Imran Khan. However security agencies had enhanced the surveillance and security for the PM elect Imran Khan. Subsequently after taking oath Imran Khan has been strongly advised to move to the official residence as Banigala was an open area and was not security cleared.

Around 10 terrorists were arrested by security agencies from the Bani Gala, a *private media outlet reported on Monday. These terrorists were trained militants and had contacts with their handlers in Afghanistan.

The terrorists, who had reached the federal capital from Afghanistan, had plans of targeting the newly-elected prime minister, as well as other major political players.

Sheltering in a safe house in the suburban areas of Islamabad, the terrorists were in continuous contact with their network in Afghanistan until they were arrested in separate raids carried out by security agencies.

Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession.

In view of the threats, all potential targets, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, were informed and their security detail was enhanced.

The media outlet further claimed that it was amid these threats that PM Khan announced residing at the military secretary’s annex located in the Prime Minister House colony.
