Punjab Anti Corruption Department mulls crackdown across province

Lahore: In a move against sugar mafia, the Anti-Corruption Punjab has summoned 44 sugar mill owners along with their records from across Punjab.

According to details, Director General Anti-Corruption Punjab Gohar Nafees said in a statement that the exploitation of farmers is not acceptable at all.

“A large number of complaints are being received against mill owners from across the province. The anti-corruption department has received 2507 complaints against sugar mill owners in the last two weeks,” he said.

The DG further stated that his department received 1363 complaints regarding purchase of sugar by farmers against the rate fixed by the government.

“We have also received 641 complaints from the farmers regarding non-payment of dues. Meanwhile, 503 complaints were received regarding illegal cutting of sugarcane by mill owners,” he added.

The DG Anti-Corruption further said that the anti-corruption department is going to organize open courts for the convenience of sugarcane farmers.

“Anti-corruption will address all complaints of farmers,” Gohar Nafees reaffirmed.
