CPEC: A Good News from Gwadar over new development

ISLAMABAD - The Federal Government has given the green signal to start a 300-megawatt (MW) power project in Gwadar under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The work on the project will start in October this year with an estimated cost of $540 million, after delays due to conflicts over tariff rates.

The government has also decided to form a special appellate tribunal to settle the tariff issue, Express reported link. The announcement was made after Cabinet Committee for CPEC’s meeting earlier this week.

According to CPEC’s official website, the project’s progress is listed below:

- LOI issued on 26th May 2017 - Site finalized by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) - Land lease agreement signed by the government of Balochistan - NOC issued by Balochistan Environment Protection Agency (BEPA) on 7th July 2018 - NEPRA’s tariff determination is in process.
