IOK: JRL reiterates to completely boycott municipal, local bodies’ elections

In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has reiterated its appeal to the Kashmiri people to completely boycott the so-called municipal and local bodies’ elections in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement in Srinagar termed the election drama enacted by India as a political gimmick to hoodwink the international community.

The JRL said that the so-called elections could not be a substitute to the internationally-recognized right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik said that the people of Kashmir were engaged in a struggle aimed at securing their inalienable right, for which they had sacrificed more than 650,000 human lives, besides property worth billions of rupees.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed on the fourth consecutive day, today (Tuesday), in Islamabad district to mourn the killing of a local civilian, Rauf Ahmed Ganai, by Indian troops in Qazigund on Saturday. All shops and other business establishments were closed while traffic was off the road.

The paramedical students, today, staged a protest demonstration in Srinagar to push for the release of their classmate, Muhammad Iqbal Rathar, who was detained by police on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Thursday. Iqbal was detained while he was on his way to Jammu to visit his ailing father.

Indian police picked up Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Tehsil President, Ashiq Hussain Narchoor along with many other people from Islamabad town during night raids.
