IMF's lending policies undermining HR, development goals: UN

The United Nations says the International Monetary Fund's lending policies are undermining human rights and development goals.

This has been stated in a report by an independent expert commissioned by the UN's Human Rights Council, Alfred de Zayas.

The report said in the nations facing poverty and health crises, the bank's conditions on support can weaken social spending, hinder respect for human rights, increase unemployment, lower labor standards and harm public health and environment.
