China calls for urgent efforts for political settlement of Palestinian issue

China has called for urgent efforts to push for a political settlement of Palestinian issue on the basis of two-state solution.
Speaking at an open debate in the UN Security Council, China's charge d'affaires to the world body, Wu Haitao, said Palestine issue is a root cause of many problems in the region.
On the Iran nuclear issue, Wu said the agreement between Tehran and six world powers has helped defuse a crisis and consolidate the international non-proliferation regime.
He said China hopes the parties concerned will cherish and safeguard the agreement and honour their respective obligations.
