Afghan Taliban attack Kandahar Military Base, Near 100 soldiers dead, wounded

KANDAHAR – Insurgents carried out a suicide attack on Afghan National Army base in Maiwand district in Kandahar late on Wednesday night, killing at least 40 military personnel and injuring 24, reports Afghan media.
The insurgents gained access into the base through explosive-laden Humvee vehicles and exploded themselves at the entrance.
Following the suicide blast, other insurgents entered into the military base and opened gunfire.
Afghan defense forces was able to fire in retaliation, while foreign troops carried out aerial firing to counterbalance the attack leading to at least 10 insurgents being killed.
The attack was confirmed by Gen. Abdul Raziq, provincial police chief of Kandahar. At the time of attack, 60 military personnel were held inside the base.
Taliban has claimed responsibility for this insurgent attack.
