Security dimensions of Pakistan seminar held in Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP)

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Security dimensions of Pakistan seminar held in Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP)

 

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi has said that the Government of Pakistan's domestic and external foreign policy contours are embedded in the objectives of maintaining peace, security, social cohesion and economic prosperity.

 

He was addressing Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP), a leading think-tank, on the topic 'security dimensions of Pakistan' Foreign Policy and the regional context', said a message received here from Geneva on Wednesday.

 

Fatemi elaborated Pakistan's relationship with all its neighbours and the important world powers and focused in particular on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif's commitment for a peaceful neighbourhood and regional connectivity.

 

He also called on secretary general of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Houlin Zhao and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing close cooperation between ITU and Pakistan.

 

He briefed the ITU secretary general about the government's efforts for promotion of ICT in the country.

 

Zhao assured ITU's support and assistance to Pakistan in the telecom and ICT sectors.

 

He said that he was looking forward to his visit to Pakistan in July this year.

 

He also praised the recent strides in the ICT and telecom sector in Pakistan under the table and energetic stewardship of Minister of State Anusha Rahman.

 

Special Assistant to Prime Minister also called on President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer.

 

 

ICRC President appreciated Pakistan's humanitarian experience and expertise and its leadership.

 

The important role played by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society during natural calamities was especially highlighted.

 

Maurer conveyed satisfaction on the existing relationship between the ICRC and Pakistan and thanked the government for providing assistance to ICRC-run projects and programmes in the country.

 

He also praised the people of Pakistan for hosting millions of Afghan refugees over the past four decades.
