General Elections: Today is last day of scrutiny of nomination papers

ISLAMABAD: Today is the last day for scrutiny of nomination papers filed by candidates for upcoming general elections.       

According to Election Commission of Pakistan, a total of twenty-one thousand four hundred and eighty-two (21,482) nomination papers have been filed across the country for national and provincial assemblies.  

Six thousand sixty-three (6,063) candidates are contesting for three hundred and forty-two (342) seats of the National Assembly while fifteen thousand four hundred and nineteen (15,419) nomination papers have been filed for the provincial assemblies' seats.

As per the election schedule, appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers can be filed by Friday.

The Appellate Tribunals will decide the appeals by 27th June, after which the revised list of candidates will be published on the next day.

Process of scrutiny of nomination papers filed by candidates for general elections also underway in Karachi like other parts of the country.

Nomination papers of Rauf Siddiqui of MQM for PS-104 have been accepted while scrutiny of nomination papers of PTI chief Imran Khan, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto, PML-N president Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif,  Dr Farooq Sattar and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of MQM will be processed on Tuesday.
