Pakistani spinner Imad Wasim achieves a new milestone in T20 International

Pakistan’s left-arm spinner, Imad Wasim, completed his 50 T20I wickets as he picked up two wickets in the second T20I against England. Imad became the eighth Pakistani bowler to reach the landmark. Imad is just four wickets behind the seventh-highest wicket-taker for Pakistan, Sohail Tanvir, who picked up 54 wickets in his career. ------------------------------

Imad’s 50 wickets have come at an average of 23.06 and an economy rate of 6.40 in 51 matches. His economy rate is the second-lowest among Pakistani bowlers to pick up at least 50 wickets. Only former off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal has a better economy rate of 6.36.

The 32-year old all-rounder is the only bowler from Pakistan apart from the former fast bowler, Umar Gul, to have picked up a five-wicket haul in T20I cricket. Imad picked up figures of 5/14 in 4 overs against the West Indies in 2016. Gul, on the other hand, has taken two five-wicket hauls in his illustrious career. ------------------------------

Imad picked up the wickets of England’s top-order batsmen, Jason Roy and Dawid Malan, during his first spell of the match, restricting England to 18/2 inside the first three overs of the innings. Despite Imad’s brilliant bowling spell, England struck back and posted a target of 200 for Pakistan to chase.

Pakistani batsmen were unable to chase down the target and lost the match by 45 runs as England leveled the series 1-1. The third and series-deciding T20I will be played on Tuesday at Manchester.
