U-19 World Cup: Australia thrash PNG by 311 runs, India hammer Zimbabwe by 10 wickets

MOUNT MAUNGANUI: India thrashed Zimababwe and Australia hammered Papua New Guinea in their Under-19 World Cup fixtures on Saturday, Samaa reported.

Australia thrashed Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 311 runs at Lincoln.

Batting first, Australia scored 370/8 in 50 overs. Nathan McSweeney scored 156 runs from 111 balls with 18 boundaries and four sixes to his name while Jason Sangha made 88 runs from 102 balls after hitting five fours and two sixes.

Param Uppal made 61 runs with the help of five boundaries and two maximums.

James Tau, Semo Kamea, Leke Morea and Daure Aiga grabbed two wickets each for PNG.

PNG, chasing a mammoth target of 371 runs from 50 overs, were bowled out for 59 runs in 24.5 overs. Only one batsman scored in double figures.

Leke Morea made 20 runs for the team with three boundaries to his name.

Jason Ralston took seven wickets in the match for Australia while Ryan Hadley and Zak Evans grabbed a wicket each in the match.

India hammered Zimbabwe by 10 wickets at Mount Maunganui.

Zimbabwe, batting first, scored 154 runs in 48.1 overs with Milton Shumba scoring 36 runs from 59 balls while skipper Liam Roche made 31 runs for the team with the help of a boundary and a six.

Wesley Madhevere made 30 runs from 54 balls with three boundaries to his name.

Anukul Roy was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up four wickets while Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh grabbed two wickets each. Shivam Mavi and Riyan Parag also got one wicket each in the match.

India comfortably reached the target in 21.4 overs with 10 wickets in hand. Openers Harvik Desai and Dhubman Gill scored half centuries.

Gill made 90 runs from 59 balls which included 14 boundaries and a six while Desai scored 56 runs from 73 balls with the help of eight fours and a maximum.

Shubman Gill was named Player of the match.
