Afghan Taliban kill 5 police officers in attacks on police posts

GHAZNI CITY - Two police personnel have been killed and three others injured in separate Taliban attacks in southern Ghazni and southeastern Paktika provinces, officials said on Monday.

In Ghazni, Taliban insurgents stormed an Afghan Local Police (ALP) check-post in Laghaba locality of Deh Yak district late on Sunday night, killing one policeman and injuring three others, the governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Arif Noori, said.

Mohammad Gul, a resident of the area, said heavy weapons were used in the nighttime attack, confirming the killing of three ALP personnel but had no information about Taliban casualties.

In Paktika, a policeman was killed after Taliban gunmen attacked their post in Sharana, the provincial capital, late on Sunday night, the first police district chief, Mohammad Jalal, said.

The Taliban have not yet commented about these incidents.
