Fawad calls for int’l regulatory regime to defy hate contents on social media

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has stressed the need for international regulatory regime to defy hate contents on social media.

Talking to Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Wendy Christine Gilmour in Islamabad, he said the government believes in freedom of expression, but hateful contents under the pretext of freedom of expression is not acceptable.

Fawad Chaudhry said Pakistan is a modern democratic state where media enjoys immense freedom, civil society is vibrant and Judiciary is independent.

The Minister said that opening of Kartarpur Corridor is a peace initiative from Pakistan and the government would make special arrangements to facilitate Canadian and American Sikhs on their visit to Kartarpur next year.

He urged Canadian High Commissioner to relax and review its travel advisory to Pakistan as Pakistan is a safe and peaceful country like any other country of the world.

On the occasion, the Canadian High Commissioner appreciated the government's gesture of facilitating Canadian Sikh Community during their visit to Kartarpur next year.

She said that her government would like to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in various fields.
