Naval Shipyard to be built in Gwadar, Baluchistan

KARACHI: (APP) Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production, Senator Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum on Friday said that Pakitan was heading forward well keeping its national interest supreme.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club while lauding country's security agencies said they were fighting war against terrorism and have broken the backbone of terrorists.

To a question, he said that the corrective measures were needed to bring improvement in the performance of police and suggested recruitment and postings purely on merit.

In this connection, General (rtd) Qayyum said Pakistan Army is the best institution as merit and honesty were being observed there.

When the culture of merit is established in entire country, he said the overall situation will be surely improved.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee told another questioner that a shipyard will also be built in the Gwadar - Balochistan.

Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum said that Pakistan produces arms for defence and it intends economic development by respecting the Charter of the United Nation.

Pakistan Navy Fleet Tanker having capacity of 17000-ton has been built with the cooperation of our friendly country Turkey, he said adding that it is largest ever ship built in Karachi Shipyard.

He congratulated the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW), on launch of 17000-ton Fleet Tanker and pointed out that the ship was built ahead of its schedule.
