PM urges need of collective efforts for eradication of malaria

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has emphasized the need of collective efforts for eradication of malaria and Pakistanis fully committed for it.

He was addressing an international conference on eradication of malaria in London on Wednesday.

The conference was held on sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

He said Pakistan is among the highly effected by malaria and last year we lost 44000 citizens due to malaria. He said that Pakistan will continue its efforts as partner of WHO Global Technical Strategy 2016-2030.

He said the government has taken bold measures to expand in diagnostic coverage to far flung areas of the country. He said that due these efforts it is witnessed that incidents of malaria have been declined up to 80 percent during 21017 and 2018.

He said that Pakistan is working with regional countries for eradication of malaria and currently using malaria information management updated system.

He said that Pakistan is also working to strengthen the existing infrastructure to strengthen diagnostic system and preventive areas.

He said the Pakistan has started to mobilize its domestic resources to control the communicable diseases including malaria.

He said fund allocation for eradication of malaria has been doubled by provincial governments in the last five years.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has established cross border malaria network with Iran and Afghanistan to coordinate and collaborate malaria control efforts in the region.

He appreciated the role of WHO, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for their efforts and fight against malaria. APP/AFP
