Although not in form, but Skipper Sarfraz never deserved such unceremonious sacking by PCB
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the sacking of Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy ahead of the Australia series with Azhar Ali and Babar Azam on Friday being appointed new skippers of Pakistan’s Test and T20I sides.
Azhar Ali will lead Pakistan in Tests for the 2019-20 season while batsman Babar Azam will guide the T20 squad till the World Cup next year in Australia, announced PCB.
Reacting to his axing from both the squads, Sarfaraz said, “It has been an honour to lead Pakistan at the highest level.
I want to thank all my colleagues, coaches and selectors who have helped me in this journey. My good wishes are with Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and the Pakistan cricket team, and I hope they will continue to grow stronger and stronger."
PCB, however, goofed up with the announcement by releasing a video of the Pakistan squad dancing during their training session right after posting the news of Sarfaraz’s sacking as captain.
In that clip, players like Fakhar Zaman can be seen doing the Bhangra and thus the post was soon removed from social media.
Soon after this post went viral, PCB posted an apology and wrote, "The PCB apologies for this post and accepts the timing of it was wrong. This was a pre-planned post as part of the one-year to go #T20WorldCup link promotional campaign. The timing of this post clashed with the captaincy announcement for which the PCB offers its regrets."
