ISLAMABAD – The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has taken the key decision over the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project.
WAPDA has decided to start the process to purchase land for the construction of Mohmand Dam.
Chairing a meeting of the task force on dams, Wapda Chairman Lt Gen (retired) Muzammil Hussain said: “Wapda will pay appropriate compensation to the locals in lieu of their land and assets and also develop infrastructure, health and education facilities and drinking water schemes in the area by employing various confidence building measures as its corporate social responsibility.”
The Wapda chief said Mohmand Dam is of immense importance, as it will store 1.2 million acre feet of water for irrigating agriculture land and generating 800 megawatts of energy.
He said the feasibility study has already been completed and evaluation of the project had been started.
