PESHAWAR: The department of Forest Tuesday claimed to have confiscated illegal axed 148,774 square feet timber arresting 393 accused and sending 664 peddlers while confiscating 408 illegal cutting machines and 1799 vehicles.
Conservator Forest Hazara Division Muhammad Azher Mehood told media here that under billion tree tsunami campaign, worth Rs 39 billion precious land spreading over an area of 85,700 Kanal land was evacuated from land grabbers, while under the drive 80 percent result were achieved, he added.
Azher said the forest land has been increased from 20.3 percent to 26.6 percent, adding that under the head of fines Rs 307.667 million were recovered and submitted in national kitty while 1304 cases were registered.
He said that KP has attained a position to get carbon quota by increasing forest area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that under the new tree plantation drive, supervision of forest and monitoring system were strengthened.
Azher said that Punjab and Sindh governments should have to protect and strengthened forests to avert floods devastations in coming days.
