Iran offers Pakistan joint operation against terrorists

TEHRAN, IRNA – Iran Interior Ministrer Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli called for releasing all Iranian abducted border guards.

'Iran is ready for establishing cooperation with Pakistan for conducting operation to confront outlaws inside Pakistan,' Rahmani Fazli told reporters on Saturday.

The Pakistan government has so far maintained good cooperation with Iran, he added.

Fourteen Iranian Basij (volunteer forces) and border guard forces were abducted by terrorists in Mirjaveh border point with Pakistan in Sistan-Baluchestan Province on October 15.

Five of the guards were freed on Thursday, IRGC commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari earlier said.

He said the hostage takers are trying to have a number of their political criminals released but basically it will not be wise for the Islamic Republic of Iran to bow to the demand.

Fazli also urged the Pakistan government to reinforce security cooperation at border points.

Referring to negotiations with his Pak counterpart, he said Pakistani minister vowed to maintain security cooperation.

Iran and Pakistan have joint committees on border security to perform joint intelligence operations at common border points, he reiterated.
