Afghan province on the verge of collapse to Taliban: Report

KABUL - Afghan MP Abaidullah Barekzai has claimed that the government has no progress in the winter season and the anti-government groups control more territories in the country compared to last year.

He said Uruzgan province is on the verge of collapse to the Taliban.

A *number of Afghan lawmakers have expressed concerns regarding the security situation in the country, saying if the government does not pay heed to address the issue next solar year will be worse than this year.*

Parliament Speaker Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi on Saturday that the Lower House will ask the security officials to declare assessment on the current situation and that their plans for ensuring security in the country.

“Government has no control over a district center within 5km locality. We always voiced our concerns that money was being taken from the people for various reasons – including extortions and Zakat (Islamic taxation) – [in Farah province]” said MP Mohammad Sarwar Usmani.
