President Ashraf Ghani's new olive branch to Afghan Taliban

KABUL - President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani once again invited the Taliban group to peace talks as he emphasized that the upcoming elections is a good opportunity for the group and the Afghan nation.
Speaking during a meeting of the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board in Kabul, President Ghani said the laws and regulations are modified in other countries to pave the way for the participation of the participation of the opposition groups in the elections.
However, he said there are no such issues in the laws of Afghanistan and it would be better to conclude a peace deal before the elections rather than reaching an agreement after the elections.
In regards to the ongoing efforts for the Afghan-led peace process, President Ghani said a consensus is on the verge of building in the Islamic world for the Afghan reconciliation, international consensus has already been achieved and regional consensus exists up to 70 per cent.
He said an Islamic conference was organized in Saudi Arabia as a similar conference was organized in support of Afghanistan in Brussels.
According to President Ghani, the Imams of Saudi mosques and the Saudi King have delivered remarkable statements in support of peace process in Afghanistan.
He said the perceptions that the international community does not want peace in Afghanistan has proved as false as a consensus exist on international, regional, as well as in Islamic countries in support of the peace initiative of Afghanistan.
