JUI F Chief Fazal ur Rehman likely to be made Senator in upcoming polls

Senior analyst Imran Yaqub Khan has made the sensational revelation that opposition parties are mulling the option of making Maulana Fazlur Rehman a senator in the upcoming polls.

"PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement] is thinking about the option of yielding joint candidates in senate polls and making the alliance head, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a member of senate so that he can make his fiery speeches inside the Upper House," the veteran journalist said on GNN's show 'Viewpoint', adding that the other parties want the JUI-F leader inside an institute to control the possibility of mistrust inside the opposition alliance.

Senior analyst Zafar Hilaly was of the view that holding senate polls via open ballot would set a good precedence. "The biggest problem with secret polls is that members take money and vote for other parties," he said. Listing another problem with secret poll, Zafar Hilaly said that many candidates become senators by buying their seats.

"We have seen in the past how smugglers from tribal areas became senators by buying the seat," he reminded the viewers.
