China vows to protect interests as US eyes trade sanctions

China has warned it will take necessary measures to protect its interests if the US imposes tough trade sanctions against Beijing steel and aluminum exports.

This was stated in a statement by China's Commerce Ministry Director Wang Hejun, while responding to the US report in which recommended imposing heavy tariffs on China and other countries to counter a global glut in steel and aluminum.

He refuted the US report framed concerns about Chinese overproduction in terms of national security and defence. (APP/AFP)
