Polio campaign begins in FATA on Monday

PESHAWAR (APP): Three- day anti polio vaccination campaign will start in FATA from September 18 in which 1033182 children below the age of five years will be vaccinated.

Total of 1033182 children below the age of 5 years will be vaccinated by 4279 teams: comprising 3880 mobile teams, 303 fixed teams and 96 transit teams said officials on Sunday.

The anti-polio campaign in some parts of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency, Miranshah, Mirali and Data Khail tehsils in North Waziristan Agency and Wana, Sararogha, Sarvakai, Makeen, Ladda and Tiyarza tehsils in South Waziristan Agency will be launched on September 25, 2017. These are the areas where community based vaccination staff is being hired. Newly hired teams will be trained to reach out and vaccinate every child during the campaign.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagrain a message communicated that FATA should keep current zero polio case status and for that consistent quality campaigns is a must. FATA team should ensure to reach out and vaccinate every child during campaign to put an end to the transmission of polio virus.

Emergency Operation Center FATA Coordinator Dr. Fida Mohammad Wazir reiterated that all our efforts shall be made to achieve last miles of our journey towards polio eradication.

He reminded EOC FATA team to track and cover the children on the move and to follow National Emergency Action Plan (NEAP) 2017-2018 guidelines in letter and spirit.

FATA completed one year without any polio case on July 27, 2017 since last polio case in FATA emerged last year on July 27, 2016. So far in 2017 not a single case emerged in FATA whereas in 2016 (last year) only two polio cases were reported from FATA. These polio cases were from South Waziristan Agency.
