LHC serves contempt of Court notice to IG prisons Punjab

LAHORE: (APP) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued notice to Inspector General of Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazir on a contempt petition against violation of court orders regarding re-calculation of sentence of a man who was serving jail term on charges of attacking former president Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

Justice Shahid Hameed Dar issued the notices on a contempt plea filed by Saira Khan, mother of the convict Adnan Khan.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel arguing before the court submitted that convict Adnan Khan had undergone 15-year jail term awarded to him by a military court in Musharraf attack case but he was not being released.

He said that the LHC had ordered jail authorities to re-calculate sentence of the convict after giving him benefit of remissions and fix new date for his release.

However, the authorities concerned had failed to implement the court orders, he said and pleaded the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the respondent for violating the court orders.

At this, the court issued notice to the respondent and sought reply within 15 days.
