Relations with Pakistan continue to maintain good momentum of development: China

BEIJING: A Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson on Tuesday said since the establishment of the new government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the relations between China and Pakistan had continued to maintain a good momentum of development.
“China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners. In recent years, relations between the two countries have always been operating at a high level,” Lu Kang informed the 13-member Pakistani media delegation of senior Pakistani journalists, who witnessed his regular briefing here at the International Press Center.
The media delegation of renowned journalists, including Sohail Warraich, Haroon-ur-Rasheed, Irshad Arif, Habib Akram, Salim Bukhari, Nazir Laghari, Khusnood Ali Khan, Mujahid Barelvi, Bazad Khan, Shoaib Bin Aziz, Aamir Khan, Zafar-ud-Din Mehmood and Mansoor Aafaq, is currently on a five-day visit to China to further promote media cooperation between the two countries.
The spokesperson said since the establishment of the new Pakistani government, China-Pakistan relations had continued to maintain a good momentum of development.
“Everyone also noticed that President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory message to the new president and prime minister of Pakistan,” he added.
He said the two prime ministers also exchanged views on the telephone. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Pakistan on occasion of the establishment of the new Pakistani government.
Lu Kang said in the next stage, there were important high-level exchanges between China and Pakistan.
He said the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and pragmatic cooperation in various fields had continued to advance. “The cultural exchanges between the two countries have become closer.”
The spokesperson said the two countries had also maintained good coordination and cooperation on important international and regional issues.
“It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Pakistan relations will continue to make new progress,” he added.
` Earlier, the delegation visited the China Huaneng Group, where it was briefed on Pakistan's first super critical coal power plant.
The plant, a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), was built by a joint consortium of China's state-owned China Huaneng Group and the Shandong Ruyi.
They were informed that the project was built on a build, operate, transfer basis in which the plant's ownership would be transferred to the Government of Punjab after 30 years of operation.
The delegation held a meeting with Chairman of China Economic Net, Cui Cen and discussed ways and means to further enhance cooperation between the media industries of the two countries.
The delegation will also be meeting with top leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The Pakistani journalists will leave for Shanghai on Thursday to visit projects initiated under the Belt and Road Initiative.
